Algae Biodiesel: A Clean Fuel
All of us are aware of the impending global energy crisis and the search for alternative sources of energy is on. Algae Biodiesel is one of the many promising options that scientists have come up with. Since it comes from eco friendly sources which can be regrown, time and again, algae biodiesel can be a great source of reliable energy supply as well. There are however certain bumps in the road and more efforts are going on to make this option practical and commercially feasible.
You must be aware that algae are not a new way to create biodiesel. It is easily the best option that you can choose considering the number of options which can provide a fairly continuous supply of biodiesel. This is because algae can be grown in various areas and in environments that can be created in almost all the areas. It is also one of the most promising options when it comes to production of biodiesel at a commercial scale.
There are however certain catches with biodiesel as well. Even though, there is a theoretical possibility to ensure large and continuous supply of algae, not much has been done to ensure this. One of the main reasons is that the cultivation of algae requires huge landmasses. In most of the countries, this much land is not either available or in some cases, the countries are just not big enough to dedicate huge landmasses for such a work as they have their populations to take care of as well.
In the wake of the same land problem, you must also be aware that the entire world is also undergoing a shortage of food materials. This can grow more acute and if more land is diverted to growing algae, we can even consider that the entire thing would become critical issue. After all people can not eat biodiesel and eating algae is not entirely acceptable in a civilized states. There is still some accounting for taste left among almost all the people of the world. There are however reasons which compel that the work on algae biodiesel must be undertaken at a far more dedicated and rapid scale. In the United States and in most of the other parts of the world, the demand for biodiesel is going sky high. The current soyabean based biodiesel production systems are not really going to climb much more heights when it comes to economic feasibility. Compared to this, algae can generate much more biodiesel per hectare of land that is dedication and consumes just one third of the water that is done in soyabean biodiesel production. At the pace with which which work is going on, algae biodiesel would soon become a feasible option.
